So It all started again in Venice, with stripes, the obsession – that is. I mean Biennale was fabulous, the Gritti perfection, the weather mixed (read: lashings of rain) … but hey, I put a good face on it, because Venice is a fairytale each and every time.
See singing in the rain.
Should have raincoat open to reveal my STRIPES. Because Venice is framed by stripes, the mooring poles are candy swirls, mainly photographed amid sunlit vista from the Railto…
Then (as we admired above) all the gondolieri wear STRIPES
sometimes there are flocks of them pulling in at the end of the day, perfect viewing from the Gritti terrace:
Any way you stripe it, stripes are chic, they pack a graphic punch. As summer beckons, beaches swim into view, here the sun beats down, heat hazes form and we all melt, in this shimmering kaleidoscope, stripes hold it all together. Where summer skies are often grey, in city streets and northern climes, stripes present a summer state of mind, a statement of optimism.
Tastemakers have striped at leisure since seaside resorts became fashionable.Sailor Stripes becoming the height of fashion when Gerald Murphy a founding member of the Côte D’Azure crew came home from St Tropez harbour with a basket full of breton striped sailors tops, handing them out to all his mates which included Scott Fitzgerald, the Hemingways and Picasso.
Gerald and his Sara looking modern Gypset before the term was coined. Stripes. He raked the beach in front of his villa America each morning into … stripes.
